Why Bamboo? The Story Behind Your Brush
28 Jan 2025 · 4 min read

When we started Bamboozii, we tried every alternative handle material we could find. Wheat straw felt soft and warped. Recycled plastic still ended up as plastic. Wood meant cutting trees that take twenty years to grow. Then we held a MOSO bamboo handle, and the answer was obvious.
A grass, not a tree
Bamboo is technically a grass — and the fastest-growing plant on earth. MOSO bamboo can grow nearly a metre in a single day and reaches harvest size in 3-5 years, regenerating from its own roots without replanting. It needs no irrigation, no fertiliser, and no pesticide. Every Bamboozii handle comes from managed MOSO plantations, so no forests are touched.
Honest about the bristles
Here's what most 'eco' brands won't tell you: the bristles on every brush with genuinely dentist-approved cleaning performance are nylon — including ours. Nylon is not biodegradable, and we will never claim otherwise. Our bristles are BPA-free, soft, and gentle on gums because your oral health comes first. When you're done with the brush, pull out the bristles with pliers and compost the handle — that's the honest, end-of-life story.
Why it feels better
Bamboo handles are naturally water-repellent and warm to hold — no cold, clammy plastic. Ours are finished smooth with rounded edges, so there are no splinters and no mouldy crevices. It's a small daily object that feels considered. That's the whole idea: small swap, big impact.
